Take a ‘virtual walk’ down Portobello Road with Auction Atrium’s NEW Portobello Category

We hope you have had the opportunity to visit our newest category ‘Portobello Road’. At present we are filtering through a few collectable and vintage items, but this category will be OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED on February 25th to process the many hundreds of lots from the estate of ‘Portobello Mary’, and will continue thereafter in her memory, as our designated site for vintage and collectable items.

Click here to visit this new category directly, and read on to learn more about our upcoming Mary Brown sale.

This Month – The Estate of ‘Portobello Mary’
Vintage Costume Jewellery, Clothing & Accessories

They may not be the ‘crown jewels’, but when Mary Brown, a dealer of some fifty years on the Portobello Road died in July of last year, she left behind over 250 large boxes of vintage costume jewellery, as well as a vast quantity of vintage clothing and accessories. It all comes under the ‘virtual hammer’ when the sale goes live on February 25th at Auction Atrium.

Mary was a well known and much respected feature of Portobello’s Saturday market. She lived and worked there from 1957, and during that time was an extraordinary collector of things that caught her eye, making this sale an absolute must for lovers of vintage costume.

Auction Atrium celebrates London Fashion Week With the Sale of Vintage Couture Pieces by Two of Britain’s Most Iconic Designers

London Fashion Week aims to showcase British designer fashion, and Auction Atrium wishes to celebrate its February 2008 shows by bringing you a selection of vintage pieces from two of its biggest icons: Zandra Rhodes and Hardy Amies.

Zandra Rhodes is one of the new wave of British designers who put London at the forefront of the international fashion scene in the 1970s, her creations always being dramatic but graceful, with a timeless quality that makes them unmistakably a Rhodes creation.  We currently have on offer two of these such pieces, as current today as they were the day they came off the catwalk.

Hardy Amies is widely recognized  as having founded the most internationally successful couture house in Britain, and was perhaps best known as the long-time dressmaker to the Queen.  Describing his women’s clothes as ‘sporty, expensive-looking and lady-like’,  they always expressed a distinctive English elegance and nonchalance that made them instant classics.  Auction Atrium is fortunate to have four suits which can only be described as timeless, as well as two day dresses, a coat and a stunning evening dress of rich purple silk.

View these pieces or any of the many other couture classics we are selling now at www.auctionatrium.com, or at our Kensington Church Street gallery

Coming in March – Collectable Perfume Bottles

On March 31st through to April 19th Auction Atrium will offer a large collection of vintage perfume bottles and factices by some of the world’s most iconic brands.

Factices are advertising pieces manufactured for the purposes of display at department store, and make a grand statement when displayed on a vanity, or anywhere one might want to add a touch of glamour!  The bottles are exact replicas of the perfumes they are intended to promote, and come in many sizes, from smaller version of their retail examples, to identical sizes, to the striking ‘giant factices’.

Complementing the sale of these beautiful showpieces will be the auctioning of a wide array of vintage perfumes and powder boxes, the selection reading like a ‘who’s who’ of the golden age of fragrances and cosmetics.

The highlights of this sale will include a large Jean Patou and Balenciaga factices,  a large Schiapparelli  box artfully displaying a dozen of the couturier’s creations, and a very rare bottle of Nina Ricci perfume designed by Lalique.
