A Chinese Blue and White brush pot, eighteenth century, probably Kangxi period (1662-1722)
of typical cylindrical form stoutly potted with straight walls, the base glazed at the edge and to the countersunk centre between an unglazed band with visible potting rings, finely decorated in bright underglaze cobalt blue with a continuous landscape scene depicting two sages standing on a rocky outcrop by a lake and two fisherman about to launch a boat with pine trees, mountains and pavilions in the background.
The weight, paste and glaze of this piece all indicate a dating to the eighteenth century, most likely to the Kangxi period, and the landscape scene design with graduated blue wash brushwork is typical of the compositions of that period.
