Prices of Jack Vettriano paintings may have peaked some years ago, auction experts have suggested.
They were speaking on the back of a recent auction at Sotherby's in London, which saw some of the Scottish artist's paintings fail to reach their estimated values.
According to the Daily Record, there is now near-consensus in the experts' that the days of a Vettriano going for a high price are over.
"Prices for Vettriano peaked several years ago and the market for the artist at auction has since levelled off," Michael Grist, head of Scottish pictures at Sotherby's was quoted by the newspaper as explaining.
As a result, it is anticipated that the days of celebrities such as Jack Nicholson snapping up his pictures at high-profile auctions are also likely to have come to an end, the newspaper added.
Back in 2008, Vettriano painted a portrait of the Queen's granddaughter Zara Phillips for a charity auction, while the Fife-born artist's latest exhibition is currently being shown at the Kirkcaldy Museum, before moving on to London and then Milan.
