Vast teddy bear collection to go under the hammer

08/03/2010
A vast collection of rare teddy bears is to be put up for auction in Oxfordshire, it has been revealed.

Approximately 300 cuddly toys will be sold at the auction, which is expected to make about £3,000, according to the Oxford Mail.

The toys are to be sold following the death of the collector, who had compiled the selection over the course of two decades.

Henry Cooke, of Mallams Auctioneers in Abingdon, said that while some of the lots were very rare, it was the collection in general that was most impressive.

He told the news provider: "In terms of the amount of bears, it is an extraordinary collection. Some of them are limited edition, perhaps from a run of 150, and worth about £150 each when new.

"It's quite strange having them all here in the auction room, you feel as if they're all looking at you."

There are a number of Steiff bears among the collection.
