Stanley Matthews' boots to be auctioned

A pair of football boots worn by England legend Sir Stanley Matthews are to be put up for auction.

The Wizard of Dribble donned the runners for the 1953 FA Cup final, helping Blackpool to a 4-3 victory over Bolton Wanderers.

A pre-sale estimate of between £6,000 and £8,000 has been placed on the boots, which are to be sold on February 24th at Bonhams, Chester.

While the boots are a rare collectable, the great footballer's daughter Jean Gough has alluded to the fact that a few more lots could be coming to auction in the future.

She told the BBC: "He wasn't really bothered about memorabilia, he didn't worry about it. He was always on the go, travelling to various games and leaving various bits of kit everywhere."

Sir Stanley Matthews, who was knighted in 1964, passed away in 2000 at the age of 85. ADNFCR-3014-ID-19601079-ADNFCR
