Elvis hair to go under the hammer

25/02/2010
A single strand of Elvis' hair is to be sold at auction, it has been revealed.

The unusual lot will be put up for sale at an auction house in Gloucestershire and is expected to fetch up to £600.

The strand is encased in a plastic bubble in the centre of a gold disk emblazoned with 'The King's Authentic Hair'. An authenticity certificate accompanies the disc.

Its previous owner, a music fan based in the area, confesses to having bought the item "on a whim" via a television sales site.

Elvis' hair has sold at auction before, with his personal barber having sold a single strand for £1,055 and an auction house in Chicago overseeing the £9,200 sale of a clump of the King's locks, according to the BBC.

Both sales took place last year, suggesting that if trends are anything to go by the £400 to £600 presale estimate could turn out to be on the conservative side.
