One of Winston Churchill's semi-smoked cigars has been placed on public display ahead of an auction that is likely to generate much enthusiasm among admirers of the wartime prime minister.
The cigar was picked up by a member of staff at 10 Downing Street after Churchill rushed off for a meeting with his Cabinet.
Now, after remaining in private storage for decades, it is set to go under the hammer in Norfolk, with its price likely to be pushed up due to the fact that the prime minister very seldom left a cigar unfinished. This lot is therefore something of a rarity.
Andrew Bullock, from the auctioneer house taking care of the sale, told the BBC: "Anyone who collects Churchill memorabilia would really love to get their hands on something that no-one else in the world has got ... and when it is something that relates so directly to the iconic image of the man it has added value."
Meanwhile, a Worcestershire man has been barred from selling his Dad's Army board game on eBay after the auction site stated that the images of swastikas on the box lid could be deemed to be "offensive material".
