'Jaw-droppingly unique' Haiti auction closes in on £100,000
An auction set up by Oxfam and the organisers of Glastonbury to raise money for the people of Haiti is closing in on the £100,000 mark. The online auction has so far raised £80,000, with the organisers hopeful of raising a further £20,000 and breaking the six figure mark.
A variety of items have been put up for sale, including a duck-egg blue suit that once belonged to Elton John and a guitar smashed by Foo Fighters lead singer and guitarist Dave Grohl.
A spokesperson for the charity said: "We're hoping to go over the £100,000 mark and it's up towards £80,000 at the moment. That's pretty good during a week.
"Some of [the items] are pretty jaw-droppingly unique. The artists have been extremely generous."
A number of auctions have been organised in recent weeks to raise money for the people of Haiti following the devastating earthquake, with a number of Hollywood A-listers and sports superstars selling on clothes or memorabilia.
