The 'Holy Grail' of matchbox toys has been sold at auction for a world record price, it has been revealed.
The 1955 model Lesney dumper truck, which was built as a prototype and is believed to be one of a kind, sold for £10,200. The previous record stood at £7,200, according to the Telegraph.
Kevin McGimpsey, editor of the Matchbox Club's magazine, described the lot as the ultimate matchbox toy.
He told the news provider: "This truck is the Holy Grail for Matchbox enthusiasts and we are delighted that its sale has caused such a stir.
"Mr Yoshise [the previous owner] has been the lucky owner of the only surviving example of these trucks since the early 1980s so we were all very excited when he told us he wanted to sell it here."
The auction was held at the Matchbox Club's 25th and final annual convention in the Holiday Inn in Harrogate on March 26th.
